practical tip to secure your bike | tex—lock

secure your bike properly

A good lock for a bicycle is indispensable nowadays. But it is also important that it is used correctly. For tex-lock, we are often asked which variant is the most suitable.

That depends entirely on your usage habits: are you on tour together, or alone in the urban jungle on your way to work? Is the bike just standing in front of the restaurant for a while or overnight in front of your house?

Let's start with the important basics for the protection of your beloved bicycle. The strongest lock is of little use if you don't fasten it sensibly. Sounds banal, but is still a frequent reason for theft. So in order to be prepared, you should always consider the following:

connect the bicycle with a solid object

The bicycle should always be attached to a pillar, lantern, tree or similar so that the thief cannot carry it off easily. The tex-lock S or M fits into the bag, is very light and handy and is sufficient to attach the bicycle to an object.

secure the bicycle‘s front and rear wheel

It makes sense to secure both wheels and to secure the pillar as well. Whether the lock types fit exactly as shown in the pictures depends of course on the bike type and frame size. If you want to know exactly, it's best to cut a line to the right length and hold it. S = 80 cm, M = 120 cm, L = 160 cm

different eyelets to loop through

If you have valuable parts on your bike such as the saddle or a basket, you should also secure them. Especially the tex-lock with different eyelets offers sufficient length.

some applications need extra length

A tex-lock L with a length of 160 cm can also be used to secure special bikes (cargo bikes, recumbent bikes) or child trailers. The tex-lock XL can also be used to secure several bicycles together, e.g. on joint tours, as it is possible to use a lot of length without increasing the weight considerably.

two is better than one

We also recommend securing the bike with several locks. tex-lock can be combined with various shackle locks or frame locks (up to 19 mm shackle diameter). Thus the wheel can be secured in itself and the tex-lock serves as additional security.
